Application description

Widely used in cryogenic pipelines, LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminals, ethylene plants, air separation units, low-temperature pressure vessels, and petrochemical processing. Also suitable for gas processing facilities, refrigeration systems, and Arctic or sub-zero environment projects where high toughness and impact resistance at temperatures down to -196°C are critical.

Production description

Steel billet (or coil) is heated and rolled (seamless) or formed and welded (welded). Pipe undergoes normalizing or Q&T heat treatment to refine grain structure. Low temperature impact testing and 100% UT are performed. Ends beveled for welding.

Shipping Packaging

For export, low temperature steel pipes are capped with plastic end protectors, wrapped with VCI paper and moisture-proof polyethylene, packed on ISPM-15 pallets or steel skids, secured with steel straps, and fitted with edge protectors. Labels include grade, impact test temperature, dimensions, and heat number for safe sea freight.

Why Choose Us?

1.Factory Strength:Direct manufacturer with integrated seamless/welded pipe production lines, normalizing and Q&T heat treatment furnaces, and in-house NDT facilities, producing low temperature steel pipes to ASTM A333, EN 10216, and GB/T 18984 standards.

2.Quality Assurance:Strict control of chemical composition, fine grain structure, and impact properties at target temperatures (-30°C to -196°C); 100% ultrasonic testing (UT), hydrostatic test, and low-temperature Charpy V-notch testing; compliant with ASTM A333/A671, EN 10216-3/4.

3.Certifications & Reports:Mill test certificates (MTC) with each shipment; third-party inspections (SGS, BV, Intertek) and impact test reports at specified temperatures available upon request.

4.Customization & Service:Wide grade range (16MnDG, 09MnNiD, A333 Gr1/3/6/8, 9% Ni, A671), diameters 10–1200mm, wall 2–50mm, custom lengths, beveled ends, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) with fast lead times.

5.Export Packaging:Plastic end caps + VCI paper + moisture-proof polyethylene + ISPM-15 pallets/steel skids + steel strapping + edge protectors + clear labeling for safe sea freight and protection against corrosion.

FAQ

1. How should low temperature steel pipes be stored before use?

Store in dry, clean area on wooden pallets, keep original moisture-proof wrapping and end caps intact. Avoid impact or scratching, especially at low temperatures where material is less ductile. For long-term storage, maintain warehouse temperature above -10°C and humidity below 60%.

2. What is the minimum service temperature for different low temperature steel grades?

ASTM A333 Gr1: -30°C; Gr3: -50°C; Gr6: -45°C; Gr8: -101°C; 9% Ni steel: -196°C. Always verify impact test requirements with project specifications. We provide full impact test reports for each heat number.

3. Can low temperature steel pipes be welded, and what precautions are needed?

Yes, use low-hydrogen welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW) with matching filler metals (e.g., ENiCrFe-9 for 9% Ni, E7018-C2L for A333 Gr6). Preheat and interpass temperature control, post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) for thicker walls, and avoid rapid cooling. Impact testing of weldments is recommended.
