Coating structure: primer + coal tar epoxy (one or more coats) + fiberglass reinforcement (optional). Total dry film thickness: 300µm – 1000µm (standard: 400–600µm). Color: black or dark brown. Application description

Widely used in buried water transmission pipelines, sewage systems, oil and gas gathering lines, and cooling water circuits in power plants. Also suitable for underground fire water systems, irrigation projects, and pipelines in highly corrosive soil environments. The CTE coating provides excellent long-term protection against soil stress, moisture, and chemicals, extending service life.

Production description

Steel pipe is shot blasted to Sa 2.5. Primer is applied, followed by multiple coats of coal tar epoxy with optional fiberglass reinforcement between coats. Each coat is cured. The coated pipe is inspected for thickness and porosity (5kV spark test), and ends are cut back for field welding.

Shipping Packaging

For export, CTE coated pipes are fitted with plastic end caps, bundled with wooden separators and steel straps, packed on ISPM-15 pallets or steel skids, and protected with edge protectors. Coated surfaces may be wrapped with moisture-proof polyethylene. Labels include grade, coating thickness, dimensions, and heat number for safe sea freight.

FAQ

1. How to store CTE coated steel pipes to prevent coating damage?

Store on dry, level, padded supports (wooden sleepers with soft covering), keep pipes bundled and elevated. Avoid dragging or rolling pipes over sharp or abrasive surfaces. For outdoor storage, cover with tarpaulin to prevent dirt accumulation and UV exposure. Minor coating chips should be repaired with coal tar epoxy repair compound.

2. What is the difference between coal tar epoxy (CTE) and 3PE or FBE coatings?

CTE coating is a solvent-based epoxy with coal tar, applied in liquid form with optional fiberglass reinforcement. It is economical and provides excellent moisture resistance and cathodic disbondment, suitable for mildly corrosive buried environments. 3PE offers thicker, more abrasion-resistant coating for rocky terrain. FBE provides outstanding adhesion and high-temperature resistance. Choose CTE for water pipelines and general anti-corrosion where high impact resistance is not critical.

3. Can CTE coated pipes be used for drinking water transmission?

Yes, when the coating formulation meets potable water standards.
